Juliana is my favorite type of person.
She's fun. She's bubbly. She's laid back and down to earth.
And, most importantly, she loves learning.
Her current project is the guitar, which, she says, is something that she's always wanted to learn. "I figure now's as good a time as any," she informed me during our shoot, already holding it like a pro. When I asked her why she was learning to play, she just shrugged, absently plucked a few strings, and said (flashing her dazzling smile), "Just because."
Just because.
Learning is freedom. All too often, when we finish school - whether it be high school, college, or even graduate school - we sigh with relief, thinking, Whew. No more studying! No more books! And, even if we don't think it outright, what we're really generating is the message, No more learning!
It is my opinion that we should never stop learning - even if it's something as simple as how to change a tire. Learning is what keeps us fresh. It's what keeps our minds agile, open, and awake.
Learning is what keeps us alive.
