Now the big, grand, over-the-top things in life are also wonderful: exotic vacations, brand spanking new vehicles, hefty work bonuses, sprawling yachts, winning the lottery... Those things are fantastic. Wonderful. And absolutely fabulous. Those things keep life exciting. Keep the adrenaline racing. And, in my opinion, make life worth living.
But the little things in life - the simple things - are, I believe, what bring us to those spontaneous moments of such intense gratification. By appreciating the little things, we are, in reality, keeping ourselves open for the bigger things - those utterly gigantic moments of glory, amazement, and awesomeness that, while we're experiencing them, seem to dwarf everything else in our lives by comparison.
Simply put, the little things are what keep life sweet.
Here's a shout out to some of the "little" things in my life that I appreciate more than I can say:
- Molly's tail wags
- Dehlia's whining
- Hugs from my husband
- movie nights
- road trips
- rainy days
- fresh air
- the Pacific Northwest
- Thursday nights (Because of Supernatural, of course.) ;0)
- good books
- the sun
- the clouds
- Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
- dog toys laying all over the floor a mere hour after putting them all away
- cocoa butter lotion
- coming home after a long day at work
- Saturday mornings
- photographs
And, as of very (very!) recently:
- new, like-minded, inspiring friends.
Just a random list of some of my life's little blessings. It's my appreciation for these amazing yet seemingly simple gifts that draw the bigger, life-altering packages into my life. And for that I am forever grateful.
Thank you. And, as Abraham would say, the better it gets, the better it gets.
